Crazy Person takes passive aggressiveness to a new level

Thankfully, this frog hating wasn't in my valley

Be aware that I’ve had enough of your noisy friends.

I recently wrote to you about how I love the frogs in our valley. But no matter how harmless they are, here comes a nutcase.

Dear owner of the rice paddy,

Every year I am really bothered by the frogs croaking in your field. The sounds they make disturb my sleep and are quite intrusive. Please do something about the racket at once.

A fellow reader of Frog’s Glen sent this to me today. And I can assure you it is real. After it was found tacked onto some sort of a community bulletin board in a different part of Japan, the howls of derision were so great it immediately found its way to Twitter where it of course was... greeted with even greater derision.

Good to know that 99% of the Japanese population realizes this woman (sorry, it’s definitely a her, trust me) is batshit. But it’s the Gold Medal-level of passive aggressive batshittiness that really strikes me.

Rather than make a short visit directly to “the owner of the rice paddy”—and she is definitely aware of who owns which plot down to the square centimeter of property lines—the message gets posted publicly and anonymously. “This will show that horrible rice farmer,” she’s mumbling to herself. She’s probably also convinced that a mob of equally irked residents will read her message and immediately line up to help drive her point home.

“Thank you, Mrs. Fujita! Finally, a heroine has emerged to speak up for our sleep!”

It actually gets better. Look closely, and you see the card has been carefully laminated for the weather. Wouldn’t want the Shame Card to last less than a month out in the elements.

One smart move on our letter accuser’s part was not leaving a phone number.
