It has been a fascinating day. A 70-something pro tree guy came to our place in Chiba and planted two Katsura trees and one Soro tree. He dug, conditioned, fertilized, planted, watered, and then—critically—pro staked and roped.
In the howling winds here, a staking is a must. The new trees with their bamboo and rope frames are like steel towers.
Final pic above is the (computer graphics aided) target. Looking left to right, our new Sora, then a flowering Dogwood, then two Katsura, and finally at the right corner a Sakura. Further around the right side of the house near the front door you can also see a Momiji maple.
This past summer was so scorching and unrelenting, the addition of trees and their shade is clearly needed for garden protection overall. Otherwise we have a frying pan to grow on.
While everything is of course barren and winter now, we can already feel much more of a garden shape and feel coming along—just with the addition of three large trees.
I hope the frogs seriously love it.
One of the best feelings is looking ahead for the growth of trees!
That seems promising! 🌳
