My permanent US mailing address is in a very small town in the Pacific Northwest. Following is a true email interchange with the town’s elections office.
Jack: “Hello, Elections Office! Please find attached my completed 2024 ballot. Thank you for the important work you do.”
—Jack
Office: “Dear Jack, thank you very much for sending us your 2024 ballot. We noticed however that your signed Declaration Form was not included. We need that form for your vote to count. We hope to hear back from you.”
—Scott
Jack: “Dear Scott, so you’re right! All these years emailing in my vote, yet I completely forgot about the Declaration Form. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to point out the omission. Please find attached.”
—Jack
Office: “Thank you very much, Jack! Well received and all in order now. Please be officially informed that we have received your 2024 vote.”
—Scott
Thanks for doing your civic duty. I just sent my ballot back to Chicago yesterday. Now we sit back and wait for a positive outcome.
Why are we so delighted when service responses speak like normal humans!
