Doesn’t matter whether it’s Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, or Jakarta. Asian cities, in the early morning hours, begin with gardeners.
They’re everywhere, these guys
Hosing. Clipping. Clearing. Raking.
New York spends on street sweeper cars blowing cans and candy wrappers to the sides of the road, into gutters. It’s important I suppose, and it’s clearly the consensus of the public served.
Seoul spends on singleton guys in straw hats with scissor and clipper belts meticulously trimming in prep for that day.
Not sure I subscribe to the universality of this. In the city I lived in before Japan, public gardeners did their work in the middle of the day. (edit: oh sorry, you did say Asian cities!)
Recently I had my first taste of early morning Tokyo (well, mostly the subway) & was amazed by the amount of hikers with big backpacks. Of course, I was going into the direction of Kanagawa / Takaosan, maybe that's why...
