This is almost Springsteen worthy, my friend. “We have lawn and stones and bits of garden.” The hemi-powered drones are about to scream down the boulevard!!

I really like this.

Terashima won’t use our garden. He waits for walk time, though he hangs out with that big beautiful crap-less lawn staring at him all day. Super odd.

Every time I tell my wife how much I long for an English-style back garden, she reminds me that taking care of it would be a bitch. "And who's going to do it? You?!" she adds, looking me up and down with a disgusted look on her face. Game, set, match. Bye-bye, English garden.

It’s kind of the opposite for us. I end up wrestling for years with all of Toru’s plant choices and lack of planning garden sprawl. He will never lift a finger to care for gardens after confidently planting a bunch of inappropriate junk.

However this time (so far) it’s been different. He has slaved out there to help make things work.

(Sssssssh. Don’t tell him I said that.)

Your garden looks great so far. Living in the Yokohama suburbs on a tiny plot of land, my "garden" is just a thin strip of dirt running around three sides of my house, constantly covered in weeds.

That's why I don't understand all those people in my neighborhood who never make anything out of their much larger outdoor spaces. Those "gardens" look mighty ugly, I tell you.

Thank you!! This is the first “ground, actual earth” garden I’ve had since my childhood home. It’s a joy and a challenge to actually have to dig.

We have lawn and stones and bits of garden. The lawn is used by Scout as a toilet. This kills the grass and leaves wee piles that have to be washed away. But it beats the alternative of “If in doubt rip it out and concrete the green bits.
